CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The principal of a southeast Charlotte middle school has resigned from her position, over a month after she was suspended without an official explanation from the district.
Jennifer Schroeder resigned from Randolph Middle School on Tuesday, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Michael Turner, a retired principal, will take over as interim principal during the summer period and oversee the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.
Schroeder's exit comes after her suspension on May 20. The district told WCNC Charlotte on May 29 that Schroeder had been suspended with pay but provided no further information on the situation.
Schroeder's suspension happened around the same time that the district faced backlash for the suspension of Jamie Brooks, the former principal of Ardrey Kell High School. Brooks announced her retirement after her suspension, which was also done without explanation. Parents and staff members questioned the district's lack of transparency regarding the suspension.
This is not the first time Turner has stepped up in an interim role after another principal was let go. In 2024, Turner took over Hopewell High School after its principal was suspended. In 2019, Turner filled in at West Mecklenburg High School after its principal resigned.
