MAKING SENSE OF WHAT

LOOKS LIKE NONSENSE

Having trouble making sense of the constitutional amendments that will appear on the ballot this November? I am, and I’m a lawyer!

As you educate your readers and viewers about the decision they will have to make, I pass along a link to the UNC School of Government. This SOG post explains the current state of the law, the proposed constitutional amendments and what the amendments would do to our judicial elections. Warning: Weaving through this post, helpful though it is, may make your head hurt. But the examples Professor Denning gives will go some distance to making clear – or at least clearer – what changes the General Assembly is proposing.

Never forget that the School of Government is a good source of information about topics of interest. The SOG is charged with providing unbiased legal information, not legal advice. I routinely use their Superior Court Judges’ Benchbook as a quick summary of the law on topics ranging from sealed search warrants and access to court records to when a court might enter a gatekeeper order.
