Thanks to our amazing partners across our beautiful state, the Library of North Carolina, State Archives of North Carolina, and funding from LSTA, DigitalNC has officially surpassed 5 MILLION newspaper pages — all of which are available for viewing online for free!
According to one of our early blogs, we began our newspaper journey nearly 16 years ago when we added issues from one newspaper, The News Journal (Raeford, N.C.). The paper was from long-time partner Wilson County Public Library. Since then, DigitalNC staff and its partners have steadily grown the North Carolina Newspaper Collection to over 1,400 titles with representation from all 100 counties, and we aren’t slowing down yet! With requests for the digitization of nearly 733k pages of newspapers in the last year+ alone and more coming in every day, we won’t be slowing down any time soon.
