Reggie Ponder has been named editor of The Wake Weekly and The Butner-Creedmoor News.
Ponder, 60, began his work at the newspapers on Nov. 13.
He has worked at community newspapers in eastern North Carolina for 27 years, most recently as a staff writer for The Daily Advance in Elizabeth City and the Perquimans Weekly in Hertford.
Ponder was editor of the Chowan Herald in Edenton from 2013-17 and has worked at The Franklin Times, Henderson Daily Dispatch, The Enterprise in Spring Hope and the Wayne-Wilson News Leader in Fremont.
“I am an old-fashioned true believer in the importance of community journalism,” Ponder said. “In a time when there are countless sources of information — but many of them driven by biases that range from misguided to nefarious — it is more important than ever to have a local source of information that is familiar with the community and committed to treating everyone in the community fairly. I am proud of the history of these newspapers and pleased to now have an opportunity to become part of the tradition here.”
The Wake Weekly and Butner-Creedmoor News are owned by Restoration NewsMedia, whose other titles include The Wilson Times, the Johnstonian News of Smithfield and The Enterprise of Spring Hope.
