NC Elections Prep: Focus on Democracy

Posted

Join the NC Local News Workshop and facilitators for a workshop on topics that help you prepare for this year's election coverage.

About this event

Local elections aren’t just about hometown and statewide campaigns and candidates, they increasingly involve voting access and security, national influence and pressure on democratic processes.

Join other North Carolina news and information providers for hands-on workshops and participatory discussion of ways local coverage can give voters the tools and information they need to take part in November’s general election.

Speakers and program details to come, but one thing is certain: There’ll be pizza (just like on Election night!). Plan on topics including campaign finance, what local reporting can do in support of local democracy, and how to use new and tried-and-true methods (including the good ol’ candidate questionnaire) to engage and inform audiences.

We'll convene for introductions at 10am and finish the day by 3pm, building in plenty of time for conversations and networking.

This is a limited capacity, in-person event. If you register and your plans change, please let us know ASAP. We are offering a limited number of travel stipends. If you would like to request a travel stipend, please email Shannan Bowen at sbowen5@elon.edu.

This event page will be updated with facilitator and session details in the coming weeks.

Presented by the NC Local News Workshop in cooperation with the NC Press Association and with lead facilitator Melanie Sill. Questions? Contact Shannan Bowen at sbowen5@elon.edu.
