Global collaboration is a success story for journalism, whatever its impact

More than 59 news outlets and 250 reporters with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists released one of its biggest breakout stories yet: an uncovering of the problems in the global medical devices industry.

Millions of injuries and thousands of deaths result from medical devices that are manufactured all around the world, devices that patients don't know much about. 

The work of ICIJ was based on collaborative reporting and analyzing public records and has already received public attention, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration promising to change its device approval rules. Even if other industries and countries might not be as responsive to the article, ICIJ accomplished its motive of shining a light onto an unknown topic.
