Trump Twitter ruling has implications for all government officials

On Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that President Trump can no longer block users on Twitter based on their political views because it violates the First Amendment due to Twitter being a "designated public forum". 

The plaintiffs were Twitter users who had been blocked by Trump and who sought the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University to bring the case to trial on the basis that the president was blocking their First Amendment rights.

Trump is not the only government official that is required to heed the ruling, as it extends to all public officials with social media accounts. This ruling has the potential to change the way constituents communicate with their representatives.
