Three community daily newspapers will continue to work together to provide impactful local journalism for Eastern North Carolina. Recent editor shifts will allow for continued digital growth and increased collaboration.

Chris Segal, 32, will assume the regional editor role for The Daily News in Jacksonville, the Sun Journal in New Bern and The Free Press in Kinston, along with multiple weekly and specialty magazine publications My Onslow, My New Bern and My Lenoir.

“All three of these communities already appreciate the work Chris has done and know the strength he brings to coverage and involvement,” said Pam Sander, GateHouse Southeast regional editor. “He has been at the core of so many of our successes, and I’m excited that he will continue to move us forward.”

Amanda Humphrey, the previous lead editor in Jacksonville, will take on a newly created digital engagement role for the three newsrooms and will be responsible for training local journalists, creating digital content and ensuring digital growth for all three daily GateHouse newspapers in ENC. Humphrey will also be part of a larger statewide digital team.
