Organizations are coming together to sustain local news. The North Carolina Local News Lab Fund is providing $500,000 in grants to support groups that are working to develop the strength and prevalence of local news throughout the state. The grant comes from funders across the country who believe in the power of local journalism.

The first round of grants are going to organizations that are trying to increase news access to all communities, including underserved and diverse communities. Other recipients are working to train the next generation of journalists and collaborating with other networks to increase the influence of local news.

More than 70 applications were submitted from organizations that want to better the information ecosystem in North Carolina, and the Local News Lab Fund hopes to address more ideas that will lead to further improvement in the future.
