The Sanford Herald, a six-day daily close to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, seeks a full-time staff reporter/writer to cover crime and courts and general assignment.
We’re looking for someone who either is already experienced enough to handle the job without a lot of coaching, or who has the training and aptitude to become a journalist and storyteller with a bit of mentoring. This is community journalism at its roots, but in a thriving small city on the edge of a major metropolitan area that offers lots of things to do.
We need someone who is curious and resourceful, has a good nose for news, can report and write stories and shoot photos for print and digital platforms (video skills welcome, too), and will engage with the community through personal relationships and social media.
We emphasize fair, balanced and accurate reporting, and are looking for stories that go beyond the routine meeting and police-log coverage. The job requires self-discipline, ability to meet deadlines, and a working knowledge of AP style.
The Sanford Herald is part of the Paxton Media Group, based in Paducah, Ky. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and 401(k).
