Restoration NewsMedia is seeking an enterprising sports editor to cover high school athletics and community sports for The Courier-Times and PersonCountyLife.com. The successful candidate will be a good planner who finds ways to tell teams' stories in words, pictures and video and a multitasker who can juggle print deadlines with real-time reporting on our website.
The Courier-Times is published on Wednesdays and Fridays, so we want to give readers more than a lengthy recap of five-day-old games. Coverage should be feature-heavy and forward-focused, looking ahead to this week's contests as much as chronicling what happened last week under the Friday night lights. With unlimited opportunities to tell compelling stories about student-athletes, coaches and programs, why settle for stale gamers and box scores?
The sports editor will serve as a player-coach tasked with producing most content but coordinating with stringers and wrangling submissions as needed. This is a great opportunity for a recent college grad or a seasoned writer to grow as a multimedia storyteller and leader. Video experience is preferred.
The Courier-Times is based in Roxboro, a county seat community north of Durham that's close to North Carolina's Research Triangle. We're part of Restoration Newsmedia, a joint venture of two family-owned North Carolina dailies working to preserve and restore authentic community journalism. This full-time position includes benefits and the potential to grow with our company.
