The Salisbury Post, a newspaper covering the city of Salisbury and Rowan County in North Carolina's Piedmont, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover county government and business.
The Salisbury Post is located roughly halfway between Charlotte, North Carolina's largest city, and Greensboro and Winston-Salem. As such, Rowan County has seen some of the economic growth experienced by its metropolitan neighbors, but not to the extent of other counties. In covering local business, the reporter's job will be to analyze how the area's economy is changing and how that affects its citizens; business feature stories are also part of the beat.
The reporter also covers Rowan County government, led by a county manager and five county commissioners. Though, a successful candidate will be committed to finding stories outside of the bi-monthly commissioners meetings. The reporter may be asked to write occasional features for Salisbury the Magazine, an attractive community magazine that the Salisbury Post publishes nine times per year, and general assignment stories for the newspaper.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, knowledge of AP style, a strong grasp of how to use social media to disseminate news, basic photography skills and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite. A year or more of experience in a professional newsroom is desired, but we will consider promising new graduates as well.
Interested candidates should email a resume, cover letter and three to five examples of your best work to Editor Josh Bergeron at email@example.com.
